Jay Peak Resort
Jay, Vermont
Golfweek Magazine this May declared Jay Peak Resort’s golf course the best in Vermont. And it’s easy to see why. The championship course, designed by the legendary Graham Cooke in 2005, is artfully laid out amongst the 4,000-foot peaks that surround this mountain hamlet. Located just three miles from the Canadian border, the course’s wide-open vistas afford golfers sweeping views of the valley that separates us from our neighbors to the north, as well as Lake Memphremagog. Plus, the resort recently opened a new Clubhouse complete with a pro shop, restaurant and pub, a deck with fire pits, and three luxury suites. And there’s no sign that the Jay Peak team is slowing down.
The resort will begin construction shortly of 34 Golf Cottages, all along the course’s hole Number 1. The $6.5 million project will feature units ranging from 750 square feet to as large as 1,200 square feet. The cottages, however, are just a small part of the revitalization effort the resort began in 2008.
Led by resort president Bill Stenger, the Jay Peak revitalization project has been responsible for building the Tram Haus Lodge, a 57-room boutique hotel complete with a restaurant, pub and spa, as well as the new Ice Haus, an NHL-sized skating arena that offers public skating, learn-to-curl sessions, and a number of ice shows through the year. And next season, the new Hotel Jay, Conference Center and indoor waterpark will begin welcoming guests.
The Pump House, Jay Peak’s 50,000-square foot indoor waterpark, features a retractable roof, twin flow riders (surf lessons, anyone?), and La Chute, an AquaLoop slide that plummets riders 60 feet in one second and send s them into an inverted loop.
So…yes, Jay Peak Resort has a top-rated course. But it’s so much more.
